Fish All Fifty
In 2022, we had the privilege of being an integral part of an extraordinary fishing expedition, a product of the Covid crisis. This unique situation provided an exceptional opportunity. Clemson University switched to fully online classes that year. Daniel Balserak and Luke Konson took this chance for a gap year, aiming to catch the state fish in all fifty states. Their goal, unique for their age, was unprecedented.
Their journey led them to Alaska, joined by their fathers. In Alaska, they aimed to catch their 49th state fish. Collaborating with Kenai Sportfishing, they were guided by our own Kevin Chavira. Kevin was excited to help them catch king salmon, Alaska’s state fish.
Kevin was key in their journey, expertly helping Daniel and Luke. He assisted them in catching and releasing magnificent Kenai River Chinook Salmon. This was the highlight of king fishing. The first king salmon was caught after only 30 minutes of stepping on the boat!
For Kevin and the Kenai Sportfishing team, being part of this milestone was an honor. It also brought immense pride. Their success embodies the spirit of exploration and the unforgettable experiences of fishing in Alaska.
