Kenai River Combo King-Sockeye Salmon Fishing Charters
Two Amazing Salmon Species On The Same Charter
Only Available From July 10 - July 31
Kenai River Combo King Salmon & Sockeye Salmon Fishing Charter Dates
There are around 15 to 20 days each summer when we our Kenai River Combo King-Sockeye Salmon Fishing Charters are available. This dates start around July 10th and go until July 31st. On July 31st king salmon fishing ends by regulation and therefore marks the last day of the summer that we can target king salmon.
The graph shows that both Kenai River sockeye and king salmon start peaking around July 10th, reaching their highest summer peak around July 25th.
On our Kenai River Combo King-Sockeye Salmon Fishing Charters, we usually fish the lower 21 miles of the river. This targets bright, ocean-fresh fish on incoming tides, offering the best chance at both king and sockeye salmon.
Kenai River Combo Fishing Charters
King Salmon First Then Sockeye
On our Kenai River Combo King-Sockeye Salmon Fishing Charters, we typically first target king salmon. We focus on the lower 21 miles of the river, choosing spots based on fish count info and tide timings. Kings usually enter the river with incoming tides, and we aim to predict where they’ll be each morning. All our fishing is done directly from the boat for king salmon.
After a few hours of fishing for king salmon we’ll change tactics and head for sockeye salmon. For targeting sockeye we will find nice bank conditions with just the right amount of moving water and we’ll be wading in about knee deep water.
We’ll either finish the day fishing for sockeye or, if we get limits for everyone, whatever time is remaining we’ll go back to fishing for king salmon. Our Kenai River combo fishing charters for king salmon and sockeye salmon are 7 hours in duration.
Kenai River Combo Fishing Charters
Our Fishing Schedule
Salmon consistently return to their native spawning rivers and streams each year. Due to this, we can accurately predict when our Kenai River Combo King-Sockeye Salmon Fishing Charters will be available. Assuming our guests prefer these combo trips, we’ve arranged our fishing schedule to prioritize them on the dates these trips are available. If your party would prefer to focus on either king salmon or sockeye salmon specifically, that won’t be a problem and we’ll make that adjustment on our reservations calendar for your party.
Each of our daily fishing trips are listed simply as either “1/2-day Salmon Fishing” or “Full Day Salmon Fishing”. Then from the Kenai River Fishing schedule you can see which species we will be targeting on each day and which day our combo trips are available.

King Salmon & Sockeye Salmon Limits and Regulations
Our Kenai River combo fishing charters for king salmon and sockeye salmon come with different regulations and limits for each species.
Kenai River King salmon are incredibly special fish having some of the most unique genetics of any king salmon stock in the world. King salmon have a limit of 1 Kenai River king salmon per person per day if you choose to harvest it (not release it). If you do choose to harvest a Kenai River king salmon, you are required to stop fishing for the day. Anglers are only allowed 2 Kenai River king salmon per year.
There are also regulations regarding the use of bait, hooks and more. As the season begins, bait is usually allowed by regulation. However, in recent years, preseason fish surveys have often indicated that there will be weak king salmon returns. When the preseason estimates are below what is needed to have a healthy and sustainable fishery there are tools and mechanisms that can be used to protect the returning salmon. When this happens Alaska Department of Fish and Game will often restrict the fishery not allowing the use of bait and in some years require the first to be catch-and-release or even put restrictions in place that do not allow the targeting of king salmon
Daily Limits
Kenai River sockeye salmon typically have a limit of 3 sockeye salmon per person per day. However, later in the sockeye salmon run, usually about the first week of August, Alaska Department of Fish and Game may increase the bag limit, often taking it to 6 per person per day.
On our Kenai River combo fishing charters, if there are restrictions on king salmon, we will still fish for sockeye that day, even though the combo trips won’t be possible.
